FASTDAD & FASTMOM & YOU

Coals lowered down into position. Use the special handles that come with the grill.
We use the HOBO GRILL continuously because it cooks so nice with excellent flavoring. Here's how we used it the other evening. FASTMOM makes this superb Spinach Pizza with feta cheese, sliced black olives and browned ground beef with olive oil instead of red sauce with spices (garlic, salt-pepper, etc) So here it is in pictures. The HOBO GRILL ran @ 425 deg for about 35 minutes. We had the pizza on a stone, used charcoaled wood for coals for added flavoring. We used fewer coals but lowered the grate closer to the coals. It was on position 4 inside the HOBO GRILL. With the throttle & exhaust controls it was easy to maintain the temp. Anyhow we ended with an excellent SPINACH PIZZA, wood fired at home! The evening was terrific! You can have this grill!
Coals good and hot! Ready to lower into the grill.

Pizza on the stone. Tinfoil deflects the heat from burning the edges of the pizza. Use the handles that come with the grill to lower into position

HOBO GRILL IS NOW DOING IT'S MAGIC!

Grilling temp is easily controllable with the convenient throttle & exhaust controls. CAN HARDLY WAIT!

HERE IT IS! About 35 minutes later one EXCELLENT SPINACH PIZZA!Getting the HOBO GRILL fired up

It's healthy, excellent flavoring, wood fired pizza in your home!! Man this was really good! You should do this with the HOBO GRILL!

I am a build it guy!

When I get ideas in my head I always think about them for awhile. The reason I do this is because I can't draw/sketch worth a darn. I cannot draw what I visualize, so I think about it for awhile and then build it. This makes for a very time consuming way to do do things, but on the other hand I have no choice. What ever I'm thinking about, I massage the idea, view it from different angles, different materials, and also how to make it more marketable. At the end of the day it's about a high quality product that's clever, useful, and that somebody would want to buy. I'll be posting pictures of a idea I have soon so the process can be followed.

STAFFS GEARBOX JIG

These are pictures of our Staffs gearbox jig/holder that we manufacture.  It will hold the entire rear suspension of the car. With only the gearbox bolted on it can tilt to make it easier to service the ring & pinion, side cover bearings etc. It works good for storing the assembly if you need to do that also. It is made from 6061 aluminum - 1/4 in plate.  It can be purchased here at www.FASTDAD.net

Putting ideas ideas to steel/ Building the HOBO GRILL

There are four areas in building the HOBO GRILL that takes alot of time but need to be fabricated for a smooth operation, good appearance and are very critical in it's operation.  The rest of the build is oriented for good appearance and longivity.

  • The telescoping mechanism for the lid opening has to work smoothly and easily as possible.
  • The food and charcoal grates need to be smooth so when a spaula is run across them there are no catches.
  • The aluminum bun warmer doors & latches need to work easily and the aluminum appearance needs to be shinny.
  • The lower manifold needs to be well built so it lasts and distributes the incoming air for a even heat .Here are some pictures of the build. Enjoy it while it's being fabricated and enjoy it even more when you cook on it!

Locating the front legs for height and to make sure they do not interfere with the lid opening mechanism.

Axel location and is relatively easy when the body of the grill is mounted in a jig like this.

View of the inlet tubes for the lower intake manifold. The manifold actually is suspeneded between the inlet tubes.
Another view looking striaght thru the inlet tube.

Body of the grill mounted in the jig.  Makes it much easier for locations of the various items welded to the body.

Charcoal grate before the stainless steel is welded on.

looking insid the bun/food warmer.  The hole in the middle is where the exhaust stack passes thru the warmer.

Food grate before welding on the stainless steel.  The notches on the perimeter are the reliefs where the support studs attached to the firebox wall pass thru when raising or lowering the grate.

Food/bun warmer with all the doors closed

Lower intake manifold. It's mounted inside the firebox with the holes facing down so the manifold doesn't fill up with ash and drippings.

Lid opening mechanism.  Essential to be fabricated properly for smooth easy operation.  You can see where the telescoping tube is two piece so that the upper tube can rotate when the lid is opened and goes either right or left.

Another view with the telescoping tube removed.  The mechanism is welded to the body of the grill at the four short tubes.

A VERY ACTIVE SHOP!!

A view of what goes on in FASTDAD's shop.  We build the HOBO GRILL, there is another version of the HOBO GRILL in the planning stages. Take a look at our web site here http://www.fastdad.net/ and see videos about the grill and how it works. There is also alot more on the site so take a look around.

Lots of stuff going on all the time!! Where does one start!

HOBO GRILLS on the production line. Also drawing up plans for another version!

The race car is in the middle of a major up grade. Making everything fit by hand. It takes along time!

Another project in FASTDAD'S shop. Rebuilding a 4 speed gearbox out of a older Nissan. Needs bearings and a countershaft.

This is the creative table where things happen! If you look close you can see thats it's a table saw with a piece of 1/4 in aluminum plate on the top. Works great!

You can cook an entire dinner on the HOBO GRILL! The flavoring when cooking with charcoal or chared wood is exceptional. It's also a very healthy way to make food when done correctly. Built by FASTDAD!

HOBO GRILL IS VERSATILE

How versatile is the HOBO GRILL? We roasted some Kale leaves @ 175deg for 1 1/2 hours. They get like chips when done. We use them as kind of a snack. Very good and healthy! We only use about 6 coals and turn the HOBO GRILL controls to idle. Check the HOBO GRILL @ www.FASTDAD.net
